Program Mission Statement: To promote a better society for individuals who live with mental illness.
Additional Information: The goal of a Drop-In Center is not to alleviate symptoms of diagnoses in psychiatry books. Our goal is a better society for individuals who live with mental illness. We support the best treatments that medical science offers to enable individuals with mental illness to experience community and social support. Drop-in Centers have the least restrictive requirements for participation of all consumer run programs. There is no assessment required to attend. “Treatment” includes conversation or respect for someone who seeks silence. Participants are not required to show up at a particular time or to read classroom material. Drop-in Centers offer the greatest opportunity for volunteer/paid work and skill development from janitorial to administrative to kitchen and program coordination. The program concept for Holland House is based on the Mental Health Client Action Network Manual in Santa Cruz, CA, developed by Bonnie Schell, M.A., CPRP and is being used with permission.
